What could be better than seeing one of your favorite artists live? Seeing two of them live during the same day, of course!
I was lucky enough to experience this last Sunday, as MUCC and girugamesh both performed at Tuska Open Air Metal Festival in Helsinki. The gates opened at 2 p.m., and the first thing I did with my sister was to walk into the waiting queue for autographs, as we noticed MUCC would be signing autographs forty-five minutes later. Time seemed to run away too quickly, and the next moment I realized I was shaking hands with everyone from the band while getting their signatures written on a card. I even exchanged a few words with Tatsurou (just the opposite of what the security guard had advised us to do just a couple minutes earlier), but I hardly remember any of the conversation, as I got into some sort of a shock state. I have to say I was awesome, as it was my first time meeting anyone whose music I listen to that close up.
After getting past that shock we hurried over to the Inferno stage where girugamesh was going to perform. I'd practically looked forward to seeing them again ever since I stepped out of Tavastia 6th May after their concert. So I guess you can only imagine what it felt like when Nii came out on stage soon followed by ShuU and Яyo to prepare his instrument. It was actually pretty amusing watching them get their instruments prepared, and Яyo flashed a couple of his too adorable smiles from behind the drums. After about a half an hour after their first appearance on stage the -INTRO- for MUSIC began playing and the group came one by one on stage, Satoshi last, as usual.
The set began with stupid, and I have to say even though it is my least favorite song of theirs it was great for starting the show. The set continued full stream and I enjoyed every second of it, even though my earplugs kept distracting me slightly by constantly falling off. About the half of the set had gone when Satoshi announced the next song would be CRAZY-FLAG. We never got to hear that song, though, as the band's computer apparently crashed, stopping the show for about 10 minutes. ShuU and Nii managed pretty well in keeping the crowd entertained, ShuU with his "Japanese Study!" and Nii by playing M.I.P.. Luckily the problems were soon fixed and the show continued. But too soon the band informed that it was time for evolution, which would be the last song of the show. The group left the stage seven minutes too early with apologies, leaving at least me slightly disappointed. I would have loved hearing ALIVE played live.
Next we headed to the Sue stage where MUCC was going to perform soon. The band members came put on stage just like girugamesh had done earlier and it was interesting seeing them with make up as they had worn nothing during the signing session. I have to say I haven't really gotten familiar with the band, at least not in the same way as with girugamesh, so I had no idea what to expect from the show.
When the show finally started, I have to say I was least said amazed. The show was amazing from the very second the band came up on stage. It's almost impossible to describe, and I have to say it was probably my second best concert experience after miyavi's last year. They even played the song I had looked forward to hearing live - FUZZ, so I couldn't get any happier. Well, during Libra, the closing song of their set, someone bumped his head into mine, so I got very pissed off for a while and apparently I also got a mild concussion. But it wasn't even close enough to ruin the show for me. I can't wait seeing them again this fall, as they're stopping by in Finland for two concerts during their world tour (I reserved tickets for the show in Tavastia today as soon as I found out).
